
Patrick Kluivert Takes the Helm of Indonesia’s National Football Team
Former Dutch professional football player Patrick Kluivert has been officially appointed as the head coach of Indonesia’s national football team. The Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) made the announcement after the firing of shin its former coach, Tae-yong. Kluivert, a former Dutch footballing great with Ajax, Barcelona and the Dutch national team, has signed a two-year deal with an option of two further seasons. Despite this situation, his main focus is to get Indonesia qualify for the 2016 FIFA World Cup, which is a big dream for the team who is currently third in the Group C of Asian qualifiers, behind Japan and Australia.
Allthough Kluivert’s appointment has been announced by Italian football expert, Fabrizio Romano; Official presentation on January 12, 2025, in Indonesia Kluivert’s coaching credentials include jobs at Curaçao and Adana Demirspor, but he is perhaps better known as a former assistant coach of the Netherlands under Louis van Gaal. His deep background and cultural connection with Indonesia (he is of Surinamese and Indonesian descent) make him an ideal candidate for this work.”
The Indonesian football association bought the rights for the Dutch to develop Indonesian football and hopes to strengthen their national team with Dutch-Indonesians and the Dutch themselves. Kluivert, with his modern tactics and international exposure, is expected to raise the quality of the Indonesian national team.
